Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo impeached by 23 MCAs
Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has been impeached by the County Assembly, marking the third successful attempt to remove him from office amidst escalating political tensions and allegations of misconduct.
The motion, spearheaded by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere, cited grave accusations including gross misconduct, abuse of office, irregular appointments, and mismanagement of public funds.
Twenty-three of the 31 MCAs present supported the motion, while four abstained, ending a period of political uncertainty in the county.
The County Assembly described Nyaribo’s conduct as undermining the integrity of county governance.
This was the third attempt at impeaching Nyaribo.
In October 2023, MCAs attempted to impeach Nyaribo over allegations of mismanagement, nepotism and failure to remit statutory deductions.
He survived the motion, but the process left the Assembly deeply divided.
The split was so severe that a group led by ousted speaker Enock Okero held parallel sittings, branded Bunge Mashinani, outside the official chambers.
Reconciliation took months and involved several court battles.
