Motorists To Dig Big In Pocket After Fuel Prices Go Up in New EPRA Adjustment

Motorists will have to pay more for fuel following the latest review of petroleum product prices by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

The pump prices of super petrol and diesel increased by Ksh5 per litre while that of kerosene remains unchanged.

In a statement issued in Nairobi on Monday, 14th March, EPRA said the prices were inclusive of the eight per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation.

The average landed cost of imported super petrol increased by 13.34 per cent from USD596.79 PER cubic metre in January 2022 to USD676.40 per cubic metre in February 2022; Diesel increased by 11.74 per cent from USD606.16 per cubic metre to USD677.31 per cubic metre.

Following the adjustments, a litre of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene in Nairobi will now retail at Ksh134.72, Ksh115.60 and Ksh110.54 per litre respectively.

In Mombasa, super petrol will be sold at Ksh132.46, diesel at Ksh113.36, and kerosene at Ksh101.29 per litre, while in Kisumu, a litre of super petrol will retail at Ksh135.13, diesel at Ksh116.30, and kerosene at Ksh104.26.

The prices announced will be in force from 15th March to 14th April.
