MARATHON TO CHAMPION FOR TOURISM AND INVESTMENT LAUNCHED IN SAGALA HILL

Taita Taveta County Government in collaboration with Diaspora University Town has launched Sagala Hills Half Marathon as a strategy of creating awareness about tourism and opportunities available for investment in the County.

Jason Kitela scooped position one in 21 Kilometre men’s race at 1:07:58, followed by James Mwachoo at 1:07:59 and Hezekiah Mrata at 1:09:57. In female half marathon, Fridah Ndegwa became position one with 1:35:06, then Jemimah Chibula (2:03:07) and Rachael Chirira (2:30:03).

In line with the first edition of the marathon theme “Running for Tourism and Investment” County First Lady H.E Sabina Mwadime observed that the County is an investment destination endowed with enormous untapped tourism and investment opportunities.

“Taita Taveta is open for investment. This marathon is a platform to create awareness about existing opportunities investors can explore untapped investment potential” Said Madam Sabina

Diaspora University Town director Mr. Dan Kamau reiterated that the purpose of the marathon is to invite stakeholders from across the globe to come and invest. He noted that Kenyans in diaspora have a chance to invest back home.

“Corporates can also sponsor and participate in the marathon. We thank Governor Andrew Mwadime for his unwavering support towards the success of our first edition of Sagala Half Marathon, next edition will attract many participants and sponsors hence making it big”Said Mr. Kamau

Apart from nurturing talents, County Executive Committee Member for a Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Shedrack Mutungi said the marathon also aims at achieving physical and mental wellbeing of participants.

Luciana Wali (40:34) led in 5 Kilometres race for female followed by Sophia Mwambwaka (42:35) and Kimberly Mtanu – (47:35) while in 5 Kilometres for Persons a led differently Douglas Mwachabo (1.07.35) emerged number, Solomon Kiwinga (1:07:59) taking position two and Dickson Mwaluma (1:09:57) finishing third.
