Kenya Railways has suspended the 10pm Madaraka Express passenger train from Mombasa to Nairobi.

The Authority revealed in a notice that the suspension of the service was due to a technical issue.

The popular high-speed train service provides a vital overnight connection between Kenya’s coastal city and the capital. However, the unexpectedly serious technical fault affecting the 10 pm schedule means the service will remain suspended until further notice.

Kenya Railways has apologised to affected passengers and reassured the public that the issue is being resolved with urgency.

“We regret to notify members of the public that due to technical issues, the Madaraka Express 10 pm passenger train from Mombasa to Nairobi has been suspended,” read the notice posted on X on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Safety remains the company’s top priority.
