Gov’t Unveils 2025 Academic Calendar, New Guidelines Issued

The Ministry of Education has announced that its field officers will monitor adherence to the academic calendar when schools reopen on January 6.

In a statement issued on Saturday, January 4, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba reaffirmed that Term 1 will span 13 weeks, including a five-day mid-term break.

“Term One of 2025 will have 13 weeks, with 5 days for mid-term break. All schools are expected to re-open for the new term on Monday, 6th January 2025. The Ministry’s field officers, under the guidance of the Regional Directors of Education and the County Directors of Education, will monitor adherence to the academic calendar,” Ogamba remarked.

At the same time, the CS disclosed that the completion of the construction of 16,000 classrooms for a seamless transition of learners to Grade 9 was at 93% so far.

He noted that in instances where the completion has not been finalized, education officials will effect temporary measures to ensure all learners are accommodated.
