Team Kenya shines in athletics at EAC Inter-Parliamentary games in Kampala

Team Kenya delivered an impressive performance in athletics at the ongoing East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games (EAC-IPG) in Kampala, Uganda, claiming multiple medals across track events.

Kenyan lawmakers dominated the men’s 4x400m relay at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Namboole, with the team captained by Bunge Sports Club Co-Chairperson Vincent Musyoka crossing the finish line in 50.8 seconds.

Musyoka was joined by David Ochieng, Dan Wanyama, and Bernard Kitur to secure the gold medal.

Musyoka also earned silver in the men’s 100m sprint with a time of 12.6 seconds, finishing behind teammate Hon. Kitur, who claimed gold in 11.8 seconds.

In the women’s category, Busia County MP Catherine Omanyo clinched gold in the 100m after recording 16.7 seconds, while Senator Esther Okenyuri finished fourth in 20.1 seconds.

Team Kenya also secured second place in the women’s 4x100m relay with a time of 1:26.0. The relay team included Irene Kasalu, Betty Maina, Esther Okenyuri, and Florence Jematiah.

Middle-distance races saw strong Kenyan showings as well. Phylis Bartoo took silver in the women’s 1500m with a time of 8:37.8 and finished fourth in the 400m clocking 1:55.1.

Senator Beth Syengo placed seventh in the same 1500m race with a time of 2:20.3, which was won by Rwanda’s Mukabilisa Germaine.
