President William Ruto has ordered the dismissal, arrest and detainment of government officials responsible for allowing the operation of the gas plant that exploded in Embakasi on Thursday night.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for Chekalini Market in Lugari, Kakamega County, Ruto accused the officials of issuing licences to the gas filling plant which was found to be operating against the law.

Four National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) officials have been instructed to step aside amidst investigations into the issuance of the license to the Embakasi gas company.

The President had called for officials responsible for issuing the licenses unprocedural to be dismissed, arrested and arraigned to face charges against them in 24 hours.

NEMA, in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that the ongoing inquiry revealed that the four officers allegedly processed the license in an unprocedural manner, overlooking the company’s failure to comply with the proposed conditions.
