Resila Onyango Replaces Bruno Shioso As National Police Service Spokesperson
National Police Service (NPS), on Monday, November 7, named Resila Atieno Onyango as the new spokesperson, taking over from Bruno Shioso.
Onyango’s appointment made her the second female police spokesperson in the country after Zipporah Mboroki, who is now in charge of the DCI training academy in South C.
Before her promotion, Onyango served as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Deputy Director of Planning at the Office of the Inspector General of Police.Onyango, in December 2021, made headlines after becoming the first female police officer in the history of the police to earn a doctorate (PhD).
She earned her PhD in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, US.
The trailblazer also holds a Masters of Science Degree in Criminology from the University of Pennsylvania, from the US.
On the other hand, Shioso was promoted and named the commandant of the National Police Service Training Campus in Kiganjo.
The former police spokesperson immediately replaced Japheth Koome, who was fronted for the position of the Inspector General of Police (IG). Koome is set to replace Hillary Mutyambai, who retired early on medical grounds.
