Raila Odinga Files Presidential Election Petition at Supreme Court
Azimio la Umoja and Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga on Monday 22nd August filed a case in supreme court against IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, that he was rigged out in the just concluded presidential election.
The team arrived at Milimani Law Courts with documents packed in a white truck. The team has 39 boxes with exhibits.
Raila Odinga’s legal team had earlier already filed an electronic copy of the presidential petition challenging President-Elect William Ruto’s victory.
Makueni senator-elect Dan Maanzo, one of the lawyers in the legal team, confirmed that the case had officially been filed electronically on Monday morning at the Supreme Court.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Siaya Governor-elect James Orengo, Nairobi Senator-elect Edwin Sifuna, Nairobi Woman rep-elect Esther Passaris, among the politicians are at the lobby.
Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga has said corruption cartels who have infiltrated Kenya’s electoral system must be stopped.
Respondents in this case will be Ruto and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who have already unveiled a list of lawyers who will battle it out with Azimio.
The IEBC team will be led by theĀ former Attorney-General Githu Muigai. He will have the backing of advocates Kamau Karori, Abdikadir Mohamed, Eric Gumbo, Peter Wanyama and Edwin Mukele.
The judges comprise Chief Justice Martha Koome, Lady Justice Philomena Mwilu, Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, Justice Njoki Ndung’u, Justice Dr Smokin Wanjala, Justice Isaac Lenaola and Justice William Ouko.
