Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has hit out at the Supreme Court over the decision to throw out his petition that challenged the win of President William Ruto in the August 9 polls.

Speaking during the inauguration of Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Raila described the latest Supreme Court ruling as a dictatorship, adding that they would resist any attempts to impose a leader on Kenyans.

He added that the seven-judge bench led by Chief Justice Martha Koome could not explain the rationale behind the decision to uphold Ruto’s win.

It was not based on any law. It was based on thuggery. We are not going to allow another dictator to become the leader of this country.

“We will also not allow the judiciary to become a dictator in this country,” he stated.

Further, he hinted that the Azimio la Umoja coalition would take steps to demand answers over the ruling stating that they will not accept injustice in the country.

The Azimio leader said he is waiting for the full judgement of the Supreme Court before announcing the next course of action.

“We can lead a one million march to the judiciary and tell them to go home. We have a right as a people to not agree with bad rulings.

“Shame on the judiciary of this country. We will talk,” he stated.

Raila added that they would wait for the seven-judge bench to release a detailed judgement before they decide on the next course of action. However, he insisted that the ruling was unfair.

He explained that the Supreme Court disregarded evidence that proved that the presidential election was manipulated by foreigners, in particular, Jose Camargo.

“I am not talking as Raila Odinga. What the people saw happening on September 5 was a shock. Why should the people wake up early in the morning to wake up and vote?” he wondered.

“Why should people wake up to go queue and vote then Jose Camargo decides who will become president?” he stated.

The former premier made the statements minutes after jetting back from a family vacation in Zanzibar.

Nassir hosted that party after his inauguration earlier today. The Mombasa county boss and his Kakamega counterpart Fernandes Barasa were sworn-in today after their respective elections on August 29.
