IEBC Register Records 22.1m Voters In Audited Voter Register

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday, 20th June announced that close to 22.1m voters have been registered for this year’s elections.

The electoral body managed to register 22,120,458 voters which is a 12.79 increase from the year 2017 which registered 19,611,423 voters.

IEBC has also reversed the illegal transfer of voters which affected 12 counties namely Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, Nyeri, Nairobi, Kakamega, Laikipia, Nakuru, Muranga, Nandi, Uasin Ngishu, and Kiambu.

According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, there will be 46,232 polling stations this year which is an increase of 13.08 per cent from 2017 which had 40,883 polling stations. were registered.

“We are actually finalizing investigations on about 3 officers and they will be apprehended to face the law and that should be done in the course of the week,” Chebukati explained.

Deputy President William Ruto had raised complaints with the IEBC alleging that his strongholds were targeted in the illegal transfer of voters, which the commission sought to address the an audit of the voters register.

The polls body has also registered 10,444 diaspora voters, 7,000 prisoners and expunged 246,465 dead voters from the register.
