Kericho Governor Erick Mutai Impeached
Kericho Governor Erick Mutai has been impeached by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for the second time, following a chaotic session on Friday, August 15, 2025.
The motion, tabled in a special session, triggered heated debates before the decisive vote. With 33 MCAs supporting the motion and 14 opposing, the assembly comfortably surpassed the two-thirds majority required by law to oust a county governor.
The MCAs accused Governor Mutai of: Gross violation of the Constitution, Abuse of office, Mismanagement of county resources
Following the impeachment, the Assembly is expected to notify the Senate within two days, which then investigates the charges against the governor before either approving or rejecting the County Assembly’s move.
