Taita Taveta County Gains Visionary Healthcare Boost: Deutsches Blindenhilfswerk DBHW Hands Over State-of-the-Art Eye Centre
In a significant move towards enhancing healthcare services, yesterday, Deutsches Blindenhilfswerk DBHW officially handed over the newly established Moi Eye Centre to the Taita Taveta County Government.
The handover ceremony, graced by the presence of Taita Taveta Governor H.E. Andrew Mwadime and other key stakeholders marked an important milestone in the county’s eye care landscape.
Addressing the residents, Governor Mwadime reiterated the importance of unity and progress, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in crafting a legacy of equal opportunity for every resident.
He emphasized the transformative power of quality eye healthcare, stating, “When you give someone good eye health care, you give them life. Good vision enhances one’s quality of life, enabling participation in daily activities, education, and work, fostering independence and productivity.”
Her Excellency Deputy Governor Madam Christine Kilalo underscored the significance of the event coinciding with World Sight Day.
She acknowledged the challenges faced by Taita Taveta residents in accessing eye care services, expressing confidence in the newly established Moi Eye Care Unit’s ability to raise the standard of healthcare services in the county.
Gifton Mkaya, CECM in charge of Health, outlined the project’s progress, indicating that the first phase had been successfully completed.
He revealed plans for equipping the facility and providing capacity-building training to healthcare workers, ensuring the delivery of top-notch services.
Deutsches Blindenhilfswerk DBHW Manager Simone Henzler expressed gratitude for the unwavering support received from the county government to make the project a success.
She emphasized the importance of regular eye check-ups to detect early signs of eye diseases, thus preventing severe complications and blindness.
The county legislators led hy the County Assembly Chair for Health and Sanitation committee Duncan Wangama noted that their collaborative efforts reflects a promising future for Taita Taveta County.
“Residents will no longer need to cross borders for quality healthcare and With a united approach, the county is set to become a beacon of good health, ensuring a brighter and healthier tomorrow for all its residents.” Said Hon. Wangama.
