Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury John Mbadi has removed Seth Panyako from his position on the Local Authorities Provident Fund (LAPFUND) board.

Through a gazette notice published on Friday, January 23, CS Mbadi terminated Panyako’s board membership effective immediately. The decision was made under the authority granted by Section 5(1)(d) of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, in conjunction with Section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.

The official notice stated: “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (1) (d) of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning revokes the appointment of— Seth Sindani Panyako as a Member of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Board, with effect from the 23rd January, 2026.”

Panyako had been appointed to the LAPFUND board in March 2023 by then-Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u.

The removal follows his recent loss in the Malava parliamentary by-election held on November 27, 2025. Running on a DAP-K ticket, Panyako was defeated by UDA’s Daniel Ndakwa, who secured 21,564 votes compared to Panyako’s 20,210 votes.
