Inspector‑General Douglas Kanja officially launches new police unit to support government officers
The National Government Administration Police Unit (NGAPU) has been formally established as gazetted by the Inspector-General of the National Police Service.
In a gazette notice dated December 24, 2025, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja officially gazetted the unit, outlining its mandate to support national government officers, respond to incidents and coordinate with other security agencies. NGAPU was formally established under section 10(h) of the National Police Service Act.
The gazette outlines the unit’s mandate as providing comprehensive support to national government administrative officers. The notice states that the unit will “render support to the national government administrative officers in the performance of their lawful duties and responsibilities within the administrative units” and “provide protective security to government officers within the respective administrative units.”
