Nine dead after matatu plunges into Mbagathi River

Nine people have been reported dead after a 32-seater bus they were travelling in plunged into the Mbagathi River in the Gataka area along the road connecting Karen and Ongata Rongai, near the Cooperative University of Kenya.

The accident on Saturday morning, occurred as the bus operated by Naboka Sacco, was heading to Nairobi from Gataka when the driver, who is among the fatalities, lost control and veered off the road.

18 were injured and rushed to various nearby hospitals but one more succumbed.

The vehicle was towed to the Hardy police station.
